We chose the topic keeping in mind the issue of environmental degradation of the city and wanted to make a difference with the various stakeholders in the community. The recent increase of pollution in the city is an area of major concern for the denizens of the city as well as the community leaders. This has led to people searching for various alternatives to fossil fuel which contributes significantly to the environmental pollution; planning to ban plastic whose non-degradability adds to the problem; greening of the city so that the pollution can be brought down. Kolkata has a composite culture with a wonderful mélange of many communities who in turn has one identity – KOLKATAN. The city cannot be allowed to putrefy because of the levels of pollution. For that various measures have to be taken by all, especially by the student community as they are future from whom we have borrowed the world. Our project is aimed towards that.

Project Citizen

Project Citizen

Project Citizen is an interactive portfolio-based civic education programme for 5th to 12th graders. It helps teachers and students understand public policy and use this information to create change in their community thereby empowering the students and their teachers with a powerful tool of creating a strong country for themselves.

It is by nature an interdisciplinary programme, based on cooperative learning. It not only creates an awareness about the real, existing public policies of the government, it also allows them to suggest certain other policies, which if modified will be highly beneficial for the improvement of the society and help in building a strong nation.

It actively engages students in learning how to monitor and influence public policy and encourages civic participation among students.

Research shows that students participating in Project Citizen develop a greater understanding of the democratic process and a commitment to active citizenship.

Vital Waste

Our school participated in The Vital Waste Competition.

Our school participated in the newspaper donation drive, a model making event - Think Tank, a Fashion Show on environment  and an Extempore competition.

We won in Think Tank and Extempore and emerged as the champions of Newspaper Donation drive by contributing approximately 4000 kgs of newspaper. A lot of initiatives were taken by the school in order to motivate the students to donate newspapers liberally.  The Vital Waste organisation also appreciated the school's efforts in sensitising the students towards proper recycling of waste. The students and parents supported the school wholeheartedly by bringing in all kinds of paper from their homes and by clearing the shelves and cupboards of their classrooms. Not one student wasted a single paper during this programme and thereafter, which is the real success of the programme.
