Raison d’etre  - A tribute……

Patachitra is an art form which is indigenous to Bengal and Odisha. So it was easy for us to zero-in on this theme.

Patachitra is an audio-visual art form. The chitrakar makes the painting on a particular theme which tells a story. This story is narrated through a song. This makes it very attractive to today’s generation as they prefer audio-visual content more than any uni-dimensional form.

These traditional bards of India have kept alive a tradition. The songs that they sing, the paintings that they do have come down over centuries. They have held on despite adversities just for the love of their traditions. The pride that they have in their work is worth saluting.

Now they are innovating by doing art work on tee-shirts, saris, dupattas, coasters, etc to increase their saleability. This has helped them reach out to a larger customer base. In order to reach a wider customer base they will need online platforms. This effort of ours can easily result in an online sale cum interactive platform for these artistes. It has to be upgraded a bit which is eminently possible.

 I think by focusing on their work we pay a fitting tribute to their tradition their work and above all to their passion.
